I'll get around to distributing some of the candy bars that Max's aunts, Alicia Mari and Cristina lovingly designed and created. I expect that Max will inherit their creativity.I'd also like to thank everyone for their prayers, but don't stop now--he's still so fragile, thank you!
Amy and I are now on Max's sleeping schedule. I'm expecting that we'll catch little naps here and there but that seems to be how we get to sleep--just little naps. No big deal--I wouldn't trade this for anything. I can and do spend hours just looking at him.
There are a few things that Max is doing that catches my attention. I read that newborns don't have tears when they cry--Max does. Some newborns have very little control of their neck muscle and other muscles in general--Max seems to be in complete control of his little muscles. And like all babies, he's got an iron grip. His little hands remind me of a sea urchin, you stick your pinky in his palm and GRIPS strongly enough for you to lift him slightly. I've seen this feat of strength in other babies and it's wonderful to see in Max.
When he cries, I pick him up and walk, walk fast--bounce, jiggle but stay active and that seems to calm him down. He likes car trips and he likes cartoons already. Max appears to do some things that I've heard you don't see until a few months later. He does appear to be receptive to color so I don't know what he can and cannot see. It was explained to me that newborns only see smudges of light and dark and may be true for Max as well, but I'm showing him colors now. He loves the ceiling fan as he'll open his eyes widely to watch it spin and even turn his head slightly to attempt to follow it.
All in all, Max is doing most of the things that you seen in all newborns with a few of his own individual twists on things--a particular, Max way of doing things.
His sisters fight for Max time--it's really funny to watch but at the same time wonderful to know that Max has an arsenal of willing caretakers.
More later--I'm going to try and get some sleep now...
