What's Max been up to?

On Monday the 29th of this month, Max will be a two month old baby. I can't believe it's already been two months since this little man impacted our lives so beautifully. Every day I get to see him is a miracle and I'm reminded of the miracle that our other kids are to us, Shayne, Jojo and Sammy. But this is Max's blog so here we go...

He's stronger, quicker and more funny to watch. He's a very active little baby--very alert and seems to imitate something that we do daily.

One day after I was done feeding him, I stuck my tongue out at him while he was starring at me and he did the same thing several times after--probably not something I should have taught him at such an early age but I didn't think he'd repeat it yet.

I think I can tell when he's really frustrated, like when he's trying to get some sleep and can't find a comfortable position. He'll reach out for my face until I position him just right. Then he's out--binkie and all.

When he wakes up hungry in the middle of the night, he doesn't scream or wail like I was warned. He fusses and grunts like a little cave man, that usually gets Amy or I up and we know that it's time for him to eat. One of us stumbles to the kitchen, nukes a pre-made bottle of formula from the fridge, grabs a bib, a small blanket, Max and tries not to doze off while he's eating--his little eyes are wide open, he's up! Sometime he'll doze off while he's eating but it's rare now. It was more common a few weeks ago.

After he's done eating, it's usually time to change his diaper because he explodes into it. I don't know if babies are supposed to do that but it's what Max does. He'll turn beet-red, grunt, wince and then explode into his diaper--several times--then the familiar odor of a poopy baby. Diapers today are very well thought out because they don't leak, thank goodness. Max's digestive habits really put a strain on that elastic and it works.

He then gets moved to his changing table and this is where he's the most social--when he's pink-naked and being changed. Talking, smiling, cooing and wooing. It's funny to hear Amy giggle while changing him in the middle of thing night because I know that Max is doing something silly to make her laugh--I do the same thing, it's unavoidable.

Buttpasted, diapered and powdered, we pick a clean onesie or pj and wait another three to four hours to repeat this cycle.

So for the next few months this will be Max's lifestyle of leisure. In another month we'll start working on giving him other types of foods and juices. Apple juice is first on the list of juices. I can't imagine what it's like to taste apple juice for the first time... But this is a topic for the next post.

Until then, night-night Max.

yea, Amy says that he's been more receptive and interactive with her. He's more talkative now, er I should say, coos and wees a lot more. Every now and then he'll throw in a "gahhhhh" or even a "muahhh"--it's kind of funny. His little eyes are really shifty now, I think he sees more than we think.
